On 30th September 2015, it was a splendid day for Neubodi to
officially launch their Neubodi Bra Drive charity campaign. This meaningful
launch was held at Talent Lounge and Neubodi Production crew managed to
transform the contemporary set up into a beautiful, vibrant yet inviting environment.
The place was lited up with bright lady
colours such as pink and purple floating balloons, charming white chairs with
fancy balloon ties and pink cardboards with women empowerment quotes placed
everywhere to create a comforting and carefree atmosphere.
At about 1pm sharp, warm shades of pink ladies sashayed into the Talent
Lounge for registration. This year, Neubodi pampered each and every guest with
Neubodi products along with the support of other prominent brand sponsors; Believe
Active X Lorna Jane, BodyTone and Thalissi! Heavenly
bite-sized delectable were provided such as chicken
blanquette, lamb roast slice, potato dauphinoise & red velvet.
Neubodi’s emcees for the day, Linora
Low and Yvonne Lee kick started the party with the arrival of our honoured
guest; Ms Zaharah Aiyub, President of Breast Cancer Welfare Association (BCWA),
MALAYSIA along with Neubodi’s Starlets like Amber Chia, Lalitha Monisha, Aishah
Sinclair, Lavin Seow, Mandy Chen, Davina Goh and Joanne Kam Po Po just to name
a few. The emcees welcomed all our lovely guests clad in all shades of pink with
a quick intro about Neubodi Bra Drive charity campaign, and introduced Ms Anne
Tan, Director and Founder of Neubodi for a short welcoming speech.
“Neubodi
started this campaign in year 2013, with the aim to bring smiles on the faces
of the less fortunate women. In year 2013, we managed to collect 5,361 bras,
which were subsequently donated over to Free The Girls organisation, which
supported the victims of sex trafficking in Africa. Subsequently in year 2014,
with all your generous support, we manage to collect a tremendous amount of
11,037 bras from the public. These bras were then further hand picked,
laundered and shipped over personally by my team and me over to Kathmandu,
Nepal on the 8th of November 2015.
This charity trail to Nepal then, was indeed an eye opener to me. We
spent 6 days there, visiting 4 different villages. It touched my heart to see
how a simple bra can relieve the Nepali women from continuous sores, pain and
rashes that occur due to a lack of a bra for protection. This made me realise
that at the end of the day, the number of certifications that we receive does
not judge us, nor does our title or positions speak of us. At the end of the
day, it is about the number of lives we have touched, and that ultimately is
what defines us, as humans.” Director and Founder of Neubodi, Ms.Anne
Tan
After an informative introduction of
Neubodi Bra Drive by Ms Anne Tan, a short infomercial video was played to
further explain how your second-hand bras could make a difference in another
woman’s life. This year, the entire second-hand bras donated will go towards
supporting four organisations, based in three different countries like Nepal,
Cambodia and India. These organisations namely are MAITI NEPAL, FREE A GIRL,
ASHA NEPAL and VILLAGE FOCUS. Bras are considered an extreme luxury in these
countries. The underprivileged do not have the same access to bras as Malaysian
women do. Hence, while these targeted organisation work hard to rehabilitate
victims of domestic violence, slavery and sex trafficking, there’s a major
problem of these women not having even the basics covered --- the comfort of
warm clothes and bras to protect their dignity.
After
watching the short clip from last year’s charity trail to Nepal for the second-hand
bra donation, the audience were engaged with a heartfelt and empowering breast
cancer monologue entitiled “A-breast Monologue” whereby the emcees reenacted
the true stories of three very different breast cancer survivors and the
audience were even more surprised when these amazing ladies took to stage!
The
audience were then enlightened by “ME
& MY BREASTS” performance by Ms Joanne Kam Po Po. She taught two men
from the crowd about how it it feels to be a woman for a few minutes. She made
them put on a bra filled with balloons, do a catwalk and making sure their
“boobies” stayed in place! Joanne Kam did what she does best, by bringing the audience
to non-stop laughter, teary eyed and face cramps through her version of the
right breast support education with stand-up comedy!
RM1 of every purchase will be
donated to the Breast Cancer Welfare Association
Malaysia, a non-profit organisation founded in 1986 by medical specialists who
realised the need for peer support for women with breast cancer. Last
year, Neubodi managed to collect RM 7,739.00 for BCWA. So this year, Neubodi
aim to collect RM 10,000.00 for BCWA to launch new MURNI vans. The MURNI van is
driven by a woman and carries 2 nurses. It is modified into a mini clinic as it
carries equipment for early detection, a bed, chairs and an information area.
This project is specifically set up to educate women in rural areas about
breast cancer and how early detection saves lives. MURNI vans will bring the
examinations to these women where they will be given free screenings and taught
how to conduct their own breast self-examinations.
“I have been supporting this campaign from day one,
and I am very proud to see how fast this campaign has grown, and look at amount
of pouring supporters here today! Neubodi did a great job in organizing such a
delightful and fun event for such an amazing cause. I was truly touched by
outreach of NEUBODI BRA DRIVE charity campaign and I am so glad that I am able
to help save another woman’s life with just an old bra. It’s just that simple.
So let’s help Neubodi achieve their goal this year to collect 50,000 second-bras!”
said Amber Chia, one of our celebrity guests.
JQ still managed to snap a selfie wefie for 3 of us during this meaningful Neubodi Charity Launch. |
Last but
not least, the event came to a closing end after Ms Anne Tan, Ms Wen Chiam and
Pn Zaharah Aiyub officiated the Neubodi Bra Drive bin. The emcees thanked the wonderful line of sponsors,
Talent Lounge for the venue, Believe Active x Lorna Jane, Thalissi, Bodytone
for the goodies bag collaboration and last but not least, their official bra bin
sponsor Traders Hotel, Bobbi’s Pole Studio and Bodytone whom without their
support, Neubodi would not be confident enough to aim for 50,000 second-hand bras
collection.
The “Neubodi
Bra Drive” starts from the 1st October to 3rd November

About
MAITI Nepal
MAITI Nepal was born out of a crusade to protect
Nepali girls and women from crimes like domestic violence, trafficking for
flesh trade, child prostitution, child labor and various forms of exploitation
and torture. A group of socially committed professionals like teachers,
journalists and social workers together formed Maiti Nepal in 1993 to fight
against all the social evils inflicted upon our female populace. Most of all,
its special focus has always been on preventing trafficking for forced
prostitution, rescuing flesh trade victims and rehabilitating them. This social
organization also actively works to find justice for the victimized lot of
girls and women by engaging in criminal investigation and waging legal battles
against the criminals. It has highlighted the trafficking issue with its strong
advocacy from the local to national and international levels. http://www.maitinepal.org/
About Asha-Nepal
Asha Nepal works with young
women and children in Nepal who have suffered from the worst social evils – trafficking into the sex trade, physical and sexual abuse, gender and caste discrimination – as well as those who are at severe risk of abuse or being
trafficked. We offer them a safe, nurturing home and an education to allow them
to rebuild their lives and re-enter society. We have around 100 children in our
care, mostly girls aged 6 to 18 years, plus some boys aged 6 to 11. We also
support their mothers through our outreach programme. http://www.asha-nepal.org/
About Village Focus
Village Focus International (www.villagefocus.org) is
registered as a 501(c)(3) organization in the United States, as a charitable
organization in Hong Kong, and as a local NGO in Cambodia (and pending
registration for our local partner – Our Village Association– in Laos). In
2000, we became the first international organization to be founded in Laos, and
began working in Cambodia in 2003. During this period, we have worked in almost
200 remote and vulnerable villages and focused on local leadership development
in an effort to bring about positive fundamental social change. VFI’s annual
budget has grown from $125,000 in 2000 to almost 2 million in 2009. In 2009,
our 75 staff members served approximately 50,000 people, a dramatic increase
from 15 villages and 4000 people in 2000. Despite our growth, we have remained
true to our founding spirit: to emphasize and support local leadership,
decision-making and ownership, in both Laos and Cambodia. http://villagefocus.org/
