ZALORA, Asia’s Online
Fashion Destination unveiled the latest edition of their 2015
Ready-To-Wear Raya Collection with
some of Malaysia’s
top fashion designers.
Syomir Izwa, Bella
Ammara, Sugarscarf, Fazura, and ZALORA’s own Muslimah label ZALIA,
presented their latest designs in a joint fashion show held at JW Marriott
Hotel Kuala Lumpur. Although it was raining heavily in KL but it didn't dampen my spirit and passion for fashion to attend this ZALORA Fashion Festival. I was glad I came to enjoy the fantastic fashion show designed by our local Malaysian designers that managed to reflect many great memories in my younger years wearing my Baju Kebaya and Baju Kurung collection, full of colours and many kinds of lovely designs.
“These partnerships are in line with our continuous efforts to bring the best of fashion to the doorsteps of our valued customers,” says Giulio Xiloyannis, Managing Director of ZALORA. “The collaborations will allow fans of Syomir Izwa, ZALIA, Bella Ammara, Sugarscarf, and Fazura all over Malaysia and Brunei to own their collection for Raya 2015. Most of these collections will also be available for the Singaporean market through ZALORA Singapore”.
Opening the show was the Fazbulous Raya 2015 collection, which was conceived by popular Malaysian starlet, Fazura. The collection, named ‘Seri Panggung’ draws inspiration from the colourful characters that were once played by Fazura herself. The result is a collection of nine elegant designs made from beautiful fabrics and subtle embellishments. ZALORA is proud to include Fazura’s wonderful creations in its website and believes that the pieces truly represent her signature understated elegance and feminine confidence.
The second show of the day was ZALORA’s own label, ZALIA. Drawing inspiration from a 19th century masterpiece, Adolph Menzel’s painting ‘The Supper at the Ball’. This collection fuses the glamour of the bygone era with contemporary design. Channelling the splendour of royal court balls and the elegance of crystal chandeliers, the ZALIA 2015 collection is overflowing with intricate embellishments, sophisticated embroideries, unique jacquard prints and delicate crochet lace, all of which are exclusively created in-house.
Pieces made of classic fabrics, specifically quality chiffon and satin come in different colour palettes, namely metallic gold, midnight blue, and pastel shades as well as classic black and natural ivory. The garments are fashioned in flattering and feminine silhouettes.
Bella Ammara and Sugarscarf collaborated with Zalora to create respectively Bella Ammara for ZALORA’s garments and Sugarscarf for ZALORA scarves, which were presented together on the runway. The exquisite designs of Bella Ammara for ZALORA were inspired by the classic modesty of the 60’s and 70’s combined with modern elements. Como crepe and tweed fabrics in rich hues were used widely in the designs. Every style of the collection aspires to provide simplicity, stylishness, and comfort to the wearers.
Sugarscarf
featured three special ranges of scarves that complement the Bella Ammara for
ZALORA garments. The
Madison Beads collection, Madison Lace collection,
and Madison 3D Flower collection seamlessly tied
together a stylishly modest
look on the runway. The inspiration behind these
scarves was drawn from the
intention to accentuate the feminine values of the
modern Muslim woman. The Madison
Beads collection symbolises elegance, Madison Lace
collection symbolises courage,
and lastly, Madison 3D Flower collection embodying
beauty.
Closing
the show was the Syomir Izwa for ZALORA
Eid 2015 collection. The gorgeous
pieces were largely inspired by Syomir’s appreciation
of ‘Malaysiana’. More
specifically, he chose the beautiful island of Penang to capture this aspect, due to its
rich culture, history, and most importantly is the colours, the key aspect in the designer’s
visualisation process.
Syomir
drew further inspiration from the ‘Nyonya Peranakan’
and ‘Anak Mami’ communities
that helped to shape the style of Penang fashion
and heritage. With Penang as
a ‘muse’, the pieces of the collection are lively
and bold as the island state
itself. “The woman in this collection is a confident woman who acknowledges her past but looks forward to the future. She enjoys practicality whilst still not forgetting the importance of good taste and effortless style,” says Syomir Izwa about his collection.
Silhouette-defining pastels and black lines draw inspiration from colonial images. The ‘Mami’ culture influenced the second group of designs, with rich colours such as electric blue, yellow, green, pink, and green reflecting the vibrancy and energy of the Indian Muslim community. As for the Nyonya group, the colours were inspired by Chinese porcelain and antique paintings. Additional subtle details were inspired by the arches found in traditional ‘kopitiam’ windows and doors.
The
star-studded fashion show is ZALORA’s second instalment
of their Lebaran collection
and was organized in collaboration with CIMB
bank. The show aims to foster
and grow the local Muslimah fashion
industry whilst revealing the latest developments
and trends in the market to consumers.
The ZALIA, Bella Ammara for ZALORA, and Sugarscarf for ZALORA collections are now available at ZALORA.com.my. The Fazbulous Raya by Fazura and Syomir Izwa for ZALORA collections will only be available starting from the third week of June 2015.
