Avenue K Shopping Mall Presents A Feast of AK Nostalgic Chinatown Back In 1970's

This Lunar New Year of the Rooster, Avenue K Shopping Mall presents a feast of nostalgic experiences and sweet decorations in a quaint setting reminiscent of the city’s yesteryear back in the 1970’s. Such a coincidence I have just posted an Instagram sharing about my life story dating back 20 years ago and mentioned about yesteryear memories, then yesterday I chance upon this yesteryear AK Chinatown nostalgic cinema 'Pawagam' stage decoration, so much alike with the one we had visited back then.

Aptly themed the “AK Nostalgic Chinatown”, shoppers can savour the delights of the festivity, enjoy grand decorations, heart-thumping sensational performances and bountiful rewards starting from 31 December 2016 to 12 February 2017. I used to love visiting Chinatown with my family and friends for good food, shopping for Chinese New Year clothing with my mom and and sisters back in the 80's till today, I still visit Chinatown occasionally just to keep myself updated with my homeland Malaysia's Chinatown. I would say, it brings many great memories of my childhood memory lane back to life again. Haha...Time really flies, where have all the years gone by?

Visitors to Avenue K Shopping Mall will get to see the Ground Floor Atrium, main entrances and walkways decorated with replicas of old buildings complete with antique adornments and furniture’s reminiscent of the city’s yesteryear back in 1970’s. Auspicious red coloured cloth hanging from lattices, blossoming peonies, cherry blossoms and other floral decorations can be seen to further inculcate the traditional Chinese New Year spirit in shoppers.

Amidst this, there will also be festive goodies being traded at the mock Chinese shops along the pedestrian streets to mimic the good olden days. Shoppers get to usher in Chinese New Year with an abundant of joy and colours with festive clothings and groceries, delicacies, beauty shops and many more at the streets.

Avenue K has also invited eight (8) lion dance troupes to perform on the second and last day of Chinese New Year which will delight shoppers and tourists alike with the essence of Chinese New Year in Malaysia. Other must-see cultural performances lined up are the 8 Festival Drums, Shaolin Wushu, Chinese Orchestra, Chinese Traditional Mask Changing Show, Chinese Acrobatic Show and the unforgettable famous Shanghai Jazz vocalists – Janet Lee and Yi Run who will be performing every weekend.

“Being one of the neighbourhood mall located in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, we put in great measures to ensure all shoppers get to have an enjoyable experience here at Avenue K. With ‘AK Nostalgic Chinatown’, we present a feast of senses for our shoppers – in the visual decorations, the nostalgic music, the delightful shops  in Malaysia 1970’s Chinatown setting; so take a moment to indulge while you shop. Special thanks to our festive partners Maybank and AirAsia for making our celebration extra rewarding,” said Ms Phang Sze Sze, Deputy General Manager of Avenue K.

Spend and be rewarded this Chinese New Year! Shoppers can redeem AK excusive red packets when they spend RM200 and above (RM150 and above for Maybank MasterCard, Visa Credit Cards, American Express Credit and Charge Cards holders) in a single receipt. What’s more, prosperity cookies set are also available for redemption until 12 February 2017 when shoppers spend RM438 and above (RM388 and above for Maybank MasterCard, Visa Credit Cards, American Express Credit and Charge Cards holders) in two combined receipts. Shoppers may also stand a chance to win a pair of return tickets to Hong Kong, Bangkok with AirAsia, Fitness First Platinum Membership, aloft Hotel stay, and other fabulous prizes worth over RM 88,000 by taking part in the Unlock AK Prosperity Box Challenge with RM388 and above spent in two combined receipts.

Last but not least, do drop by the Ground Floor Atrium Avenue K for sensational festivities and performances when you come for the CNY shopping because I actually enjoyed it although I have watched all these kind of performances in China so many times. Somewhere, somehow, it helped to fulfil my eagerness to celebrate Chinese New Year 'Hei Fen' that I'm looking for this coming 28th and 29 January 2017. And if you like Jazz music, you will enjoy 'Ye Shanghai~ oldies song sang by Janet Lee. C ya around as you may see me here sometimes as I enjoy doing my shopping and dining so just say "Hi" if we really bump into each other. It's a small, small world after all!
