Compared to previous seasons, this year’s competition is not only limited
to students but also non-student dance enthusiasts who wished to take a shot at
fame and fortune. In the student category, Student Category Winner nailed the
Champion title with his outstanding techniques, entertainment appeal,
originality and personal styling to bag himself RM2,000 cash and GATSBY
products, an all-expenses paid trip to participate in the
Asia Grand Finals plus a cool STEEZ Audio System.
Student Winner will carry with him the
country’s hope of regaining the Grand GATSBY Award at the Asia Final, happening
on 7th March 2015 in Tokyo. An extraordinary experience awaits the
Malaysian Champ to soak up the limelight, while checking out what’s hot and
what rocks in the most happening dance capital of Asia.
Student Winner can
also look forward to a brand new image makeover from GATSBY and the
once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to flaunt it on a center stage broadcasted live
via Ustream to worldwide audience. To add icing on the cake, the Asia Grand
Final winner will be accorded the privilege to embark on a fully paid dance
exchange tour to any one of the 9 participating countries and be inspired by
the exciting rhythm of new Asia firsthand.
This year’s panel
of judges comprised Alex Poppin’ Rex, GATSBY Dance Competition 2009-2010
Champion, Jackson ‘Boogie J’, a celebrated dancer, musician and
actor-entertainer who is also the owner of FreakZ Dance Academy, Dennis ‘ECX’
Yin, a talented member of the popular ECX dance group who has garnered
countless awards in the local and international dance competitions, as well as
FishBoy, Japanese celebrity dancer who is also a popular TV host for “DANCE@TV”
with a myriad of international dance awards and accolades under his belt.
Alex Poppin’ Rex is
undoubtedly a shining example of living one’s dream. By staying true to his
passion and with sheer determination, all his efforts paid off at the GATSDY
Asia Grand Final 2010. His years of experience saw him taking up the role now
as a judge in this year’s GATSBY Dance Competition. Aspiring student dancers
such as Alex are the reason why GATSBY Dance Competition was conceptualized –
to provide a creative channel for student dancers to express themselves.

Touted as one of Asia’s biggest dance events created specially for
youngsters who love to dance, the annual regional contest organized by GATSBY
is open to Asian students from Hong Kong, Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia,
Philippine, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and Japan. Since 2008 when the
competition first kicked off internationally, the idea was to serve as an
avenue for aspiring students to channel their creativity and passion through
modern dance.
